Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.
The purpose of this site is to go back 10 years and tell my younger self to stop listening to other’s expectations and to quit floating through life. It seems easy to do nothing and let others design your life for you, but I’d rather challenge my comfort zone, embrace vulnerability and live an intentional life than look back at a life of “what could have beens”.
My name is Victor Lai, and I’m curious about people, especially travelers. I’m a tech geek, CouchSurfer and wannabe surfer / yogi / rock climber, trying to truly experience the present, grow and make genuine connections along the way. I’m based out of Vancouver, BC, can be found in Portland often, but spend the majority of the winters closer to the equator (Guatemala, Thailand, Colombia, Mexico & Ecuador so far).
Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.
Influential writers in my life:
Leo Babauta (Zen Habits), Thich Nhat Hanh, Seth Godin, Eckhart Tolle, Tim Ferriss and Don Miguel Ruiz.
And I make a darn good bottle of kombucha.
I’m still working on flushing out this site, but the main themes of BlissfulNomad are:
Encouraging travel. Practical tips on living and working abroad. How to live unconventionally.
Mind Body Soul
Living with intention. Practicing mindfulness.
Resources and tips for learning Spanish. I’m still very much a beginner.
